Perfect Days

I believe that everyone deserves to have at least one perfect day in their lifetime, more if they're lucky. There's just something about the perfect that is completely and utterly life-affirming. It makes all the other not-so-perfect days worth it. No matter what happens on every other day, you can always look back and remember what it felt like for everything to be right; literally for not a thing to be wrong. Some people might not believe in the perfect day, they might say that it's simply a wishful but useless hope, like Santa or 24 hour lipstick that doesn't end up all over your date's face or feel like silly putty on your lips. But to all those naysayers, let me tell you: I've had a perfect day, they exist. Believing in the perfect day is like believing in love or the good of humanity, no one can present a scientific proof of its existence... you have to see it for yourself.

And once you've had a perfect day, you know what happiness really is.

The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Today I feel heavy in all meanings of the term. But Milan Kundera doesn't lie, and despite my feelings of significant weight I cannot escape the fact that my existence in unbearably light. Being is hard sometimes; getting on can be stiflingly painful. But at the end of the day we must all come to terms with the fact that at any moment this arduous task can permanently be taken from us. Our lightness is in our mortality and our humanity, it is in our desire to help others and it is in our fleeting breaths. Yet the things that make us heavy try their best to hide our true, airy nature.

Even a heavy sky is unbearably light in the end--spilling over the tops of solid mountains like water in a bowl with insubstantial walls.
